Sligo is home to its very own horse racing venue which hosts numerous meetings throughout the year. There are 8 meeting annually from May to August that always attract a good quality field in both flat and jump racing. The highlight of the racing year in Sligo is the two day meeting that immediately follows the famous Galway Races which means that Sligo’s meeting would be of particular interest to people touring Ireland following the races.
The racecourse itself is a grade 2 racing venue and the quality of the fields ensure that the appeal extends beyond the local community and is attended by racegoers from throughout Ireland, the U.K. and Europe. The track extends over one mile and is a right handed circuit with a steady incline throughout the second half of its length which offers a good challenge and requires good strength and stamina to do well and translates to some very exciting finishes.
There are also excellent bar and catering facilities which include a snack bar and self service restaurant as well as race day hospitality options within the Cleveragh Room.
